In 2010 New York City added 54 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (equivalent) to the atmosphere, but that number means little to most people because few of us have a sense of scale for atmospheric pollution. Carbon Visuals (http://www.carbonvisuals.com) and Environmental Defense Fund (http://www.edf.org/climate/remaking-energy) wanted to make those emissions feel a bit more real - the total emissions and the rate of emission. Designed to engage the 'person on the street', this version is exploratory and still work in progress. Mayor Bloomberg's office has not been involved in the creation or dissemination of this video. NYC carbon footprint: 54,349,650 tons a year = 148,903 tons a day = 6,204 tons an hour = 1.72 tons a second At standard pressure and 59 °F a metric ton of carbon dioxide gas would fill a sphere 33 feet across (density of CO₂ = 1.87 kg/m³: http://bit.ly/CO2_datasheet). If this is how New York's emissions actually emerged we would see one of these spheres emerge every 0.58 seconds. Emissions in 2010 were 12% less than 2005 emissions. The City of New York is on track to reduce emissions by 30% by 2017 - an ambitious target. Aslan EG6 Honda Civic, an early ’90s hatchback ran a best lap of 58.105 seconds at Tsukuba Circuit, a time that once was thought of as unobtainable by a naturally aspirated Civic. But with perseverance comes results, and everywhere you look on this car the details are considered, from the carbon fiber body to the experimental aero. Under the hood, the Civic runs a highly tuned K20, breathing through a Toda Racing quad throttle body setup. The four velocity stacks are fed air via a diverter coming straight up from the center opening in the bumper, with no filters to be seen. In the braking department you’ll find the holy grail of Honda stoppers – Spoon calipers. Aesthetically, the Honda is pretty dramatic looking, with a multitude of winglets assisting the main front spoiler, as well as pumped and louvered fenders and a ton of carbon to help shed weight from what already started life as a lightweight chassis. And to balance out the front, a decent amount of aero has been applied to the rear too. With RAYS Volk Racing TE37 SLs rounding things out, the whole build is very impressive, and shows yet another way of preparing a Civic for serious time attack duty. I’ll finish up with in-car video from a Central Circuit time attack event. #civic #vtec #timeattack

SpaceX’s upcoming rocket called Starship Super Heavy formerly known as BFR, will no longer be made out of lightweight Carbon Composites, it’ll sweat a lot, and just MIGHT need a TON of WD-40. So we’ll take a look at all of Elon’s most recent claims about stainless steel actually being the best option and see if we come to the same conclusion. We’ll also take a look at some other rockets that are made of stainless steel and explain how SpaceX's use of this material is a little different as they’ll be using new manufacturing techniques and doing things that have never been attempted before. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This video in article version - https://everydayastronaut.com/stainless-steel-starship/ Amazing Starship renders and turn table animation by Reese Carges - https://twitter.com/AstroReeseW Thanks to HazeGrayArt for letting me use his awesome Starship landing animation!!! RESTRICTIONS: Broadcast: NO USE JAPAN, NO USE TAIWAN Digital: NO USE JAPAN, NO USE TAIWAN Scientists have developed a way to bring artificial leaves out of the lab and into a natural environment, where they can help clean the air. According to Futurism, existing artificial leaves can mimic photosynthesis, but draw pure carbon dioxide from pressurized tanks in the lab. As such, they fail to be effective in the real world, where they need to be able to draw from more dilute sources. UIC Today reports that researchers from the University of Illinois at Chicago solved this problem by encasing the leaf in a semi-permeable membrane filled with water. When warmed by sunlight, water evaporates out, and carbon dioxide is pulled in. An artificial photosystem then converts CO2 to carbon monoxide and oxygen. Carbon monoxide can be used to create various synthetic fuels, including gasoline and methanol. The oxygen can either be collected or released into the environment. The researchers calculate that 360 of the 1.7 meter long and 0.2 meter wide leaves could produce a half ton of carbon monoxide per day. The same number of leaves spread out in a 500 square meter area could also reduce CO2 levels within 100 meters by 10% in just one day. The conceptual design for the leaves reportedly use readily available technology and materials, and will be 10 times more effective than natural leaves at converting CO2 to fuel. RUNDOWN SHOWS: 1. ** Canada will impose a tax on carbon emissions starting in 2018 as part of its efforts to meet targets set by the Paris climate change accord. I care about the environment and have made many videos talking about our planet as the garden of eden that it is and and ark hurtling through space. This is our home, there is nowhere else for us to go. **A direct tax on carbon emissions of at least $10 Canadian ($7.60) a ton or adopt a cap-and-trade system by 2018, the federal government will implement a basic carbon tax of $10 a ton, rising by $10 a ton per year until it reaches C$50 a ton by 2022. But the Paris Climate Accord is not a solution to climate change, global warming and the toxic pollution of our planet. It is however a tax grab from citizens, taxpayers. Corporations love the accord cause the burden is not on them, as a matter of fact they will get incentives to change and once again who do you think will pay for that, the taxpayers. **Industrial agriculture's huge carbon footprint. ... The U.S. food system contributes nearly 20 percent of the nation's carbon dioxide emissions; on a global scale, figures from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) say that agricultural land use contributes 12 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. There are decisive actions governments can take right now unilaterally to combat our impact on the planet, but that isn't happening. ** Saskatchewan premier, Brad Wall, blasted Trudeau for unilaterally announcing his plan and not working with the provinces on a collaborative proposal. “The level of disrespect shown by the prime minister and his government is stunning,” Wall said in a statement. “This new tax will damage our economy. The bottom line is that the Saskatchewan economy, already hurting from a downturn in commodity prices, will be one of the hardest hit by a new federal carbon tax because of our trade-exposed resource industries.”

OTTAWA, ON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation has launched a cross-country tour with Todd Myers, Director for the Center for the Environment at the Washington Policy Center, to share lessons from his state’s experience with carbon taxes. In November 2016, Washington state voters rejected Washington Initiative 732, which would have made Washington the first U.S. state to impose a direct carbon tax, beginning at $15 per ton and rising to $25 per ton in the second year, together with offsetting reductions in business and sales taxes. The measure was defeated with 59 per cent of voters opposing it. https://www.taxpayer.com/news-releases/carbon-taxes--the-washington-state-experienceg

"In a recent survey of 1,400 adults believing in climate change caused by humans, 75% agree that there is something they can personally do to help the planet, but yet only 40% have taken action," says Marisa de Belloy, CEO of Cool Effect, the crowdfunding site that helps people buy carbon credits simply and affordably. Americans produce an average of 17 tons of carbon per year, she says. The remarkable thing is how affordable it is to offset that production at CoolEffect.com. The site provides a clear price for a one-ton carbon credit for each project on the site. The lowest price per credit: $4.12. At that price, Americans can offset their entire year's carbon production for just $70.04. De Belloy hopes to get the nonprofit site's users to look past their own carbon offset requirements and to focus instead on supporting great projects, most of which provide a variety of social and environmental benefits aside from carbon offsets. United Nations, New York, 1 December 2009 - An art exhibit, CO2 CUBES: Visualize a Tonne of Change, will be unveiled to the public on site at Copenhagen, at the Tycho Brahe Planetarium, for the launch of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties (COP-15), from 7 to 18 December. CO2 CUBES: Visualize a Tonne of Change is a digital media art installation and communications platform designed to make visible the monumental scale of carbon dioxide (CO2) being released into the atmosphere by human activity. The new media technology system specifically designed for this exhibit, presents viewers with a visual sense of what one metric tonne of CO2 looks like in a solid form, explains Kiyo Akasaka, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information. The CO2 Cube is an installation where art, science and technology intersect to generate awareness and solutions supporting a fair deal in Copenhagen. The panelists of the press conference are: Eric Falt, Director of the Outreach Division from the Department of Public Information; Mia Hanak from Millennium ART; Travis Threlkel from Obscura Digital; Chris Di Cesare and Andy Berndt from YouTube. Carbon Offset Programs:Travel Carbon Neutral-Travel Video Alert Have a good trip...and don't worry that your flight is spewing tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Carbon Offset programs are new and making it possible to travel with no carbon footprint. Travel Carbon neutral. This is Kaleel Sakakeeny with your Travel Video Alert More people are flying than ever and the C02 emitted by planes at high altitudes does more harm to the atmosphere than emission from cars, so no one can travel guilt free these days? However, Carbon Offset programs let travelers offset the gas they pass The programs offered on the web and by travel giants like Orbitz and Travelocity calculate how much C02 you're responsible for while you're flying the friendly skies They give you a dollar figure to pay to offset your carbon footprint... and they'll plant a tree with the money or back a wind power program My trip from Boston to San Francisco cost me 7 bucks to offset my ton of Carbon Dioxide, and the company plants a Douglass Fir Tree to make the air a little cleaner. Does it help or just feel good? It takes a 50 years for the tree to grow so I'd rather see the airlines fly more fuel efficient planes, use less congested airports...but mostly I' d like to see us stop buying big cars burgers and houses. We added a Coleman 13 seer condenser to an existing furnace with a bypass air cleaner in the attic. Husband had dementia and she was most concerned about keeping him comfortable and healthy. So we kept it basic on the a/c and loaded the air quality side of the equation with the hepa/pco/carbon bypass filter, sealed up her duct work and added a variable speed blower to her furnace.

(Part 2) Scott Nystrom presents the study he conducted with Regional Economic Models, Inc. (REMI). The study examined the impact of a steadily-rising tax on carbon-based fuels of $10 per ton of carbon dioxide, increasing $10 per ton each year. It found that, after 20 years, the tax would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 52 percent while adding 2.8 million jobs to the economy. In 2012, EcoMotion conceived and fabricated the "Emissions Time Bomb" aka "The Ton" to raise awareness about greenhouse gases and their enormity. Our climate action planning made clear that greenhouse gases are "out of sight, and out of mind." Citizens and businesses lack a frame of reference for greenhouse gases and individual footprints. EcoMotion created the "Save a Ton" campaign to galvanize action on an individual basis that collectively will result in significant emissions reductions. The Ton serves as the community outreach icon for the "Save a Ton" campaign. It is intended raise awareness and to motivate individual actions that will save a ton of money and a ton of carbon dioxide. Imagine if each of us saved a ton this year. http://ecomotion.us/econet/emissions-time-bomb/

Climate change has become one of the most complex and pressing environmental issue of this century. But while many of us agree that we must do something, the challenge sometimes seems great. What small action can you take to make a difference? Go Zero. The Conservation Funds Go Zero program makes it simple for individuals, corporations, or even entire communities to first measure their carbon dioxide emissions, learn helpful ways to reduce those emissions, and then offset the remainder by planting trees.

Q-ton is a new-generation, energy-efficient CO2 heat pump. Carbon dioxide (CO2) hot water heat pumps are relatively new on the market and have the ability to deliver sanitary hot water at 65-90°C very efficiently. They can offer significant carbon and energy savings potential compared with hot water boilers. Q-ton is specifically designed to transfer heat from the ambient air into a water heating system. The refrigeration system uses carbon dioxide as the working fluid. It can be used to provide sanitary hot water in a wide range of buildings.
