China's trillion dollar plan to dominate global trade

05:59
It's about more than just economics. To learn more, visit https://reconnectingasia.csis.org/map/ Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO China's Belt and Road Initiative is the most ambitious infrastructure project in modern history. It spans over 60 countries and will cost over a trillion dollars. The plan is to make it easier for the world to trade with China, by funding roads, railways, pipelines, and other infrastructure projects in Asia and Africa. China is loaning trillions of dollars to any country that's willing to participate and it's been a big hit with the less democratic countries in the region. This makes the BRI a risky plan as well. But China is pushing forward because its goals are not strictly economic, they're also geopolitical. To truly understand the international conflicts and trends shaping our world you need a big-picture view. Video journalist Sam Ellis uses maps to tell these stories and chart their effects on foreign policy. 2018/10/19: Trade disputes: China-EU against US? | Is multilateralism at stake?

27:27
An Asia-Europe summit of more than 50 countries opened on Thursday in Brussels, in a bid to boost cooperation and regional connectivity. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang joined other Asian and European leaders at the meeting. How can we make sense of the significance of the China-Europe relationship against the backdrop of tensions between China and the US? Ian Reifowitz, Professor of Historical Studies at S.U.N.Y. Empire State College; Fred Teng, President of the America China Public Affairs Institute in New York; and Daniel Gros, Director of the Centre for European Policy Studies in Brussels, joined The Point. As President Trump pursues his "America First" agenda, while crediting his protectionist trade policies for bringing about deals with other countries, how can the rest of the world promote multilateralism? At the same time, what is China doing to safeguard multilateralism? Vladimir Yakunin, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Dialogue of Civilizations Research Institute, shared his views. Hip Hop’s Reckoning with Asian Rappers: $tupid Young, 88rising, and Ebro Darden

26:41
A growing number of Asian artists have burst onto the hip-hop scene over the past few years, thanks, in large part, to 88rising—a multimedia company that specializes in signing and amplifying Asian talent. Founder Sean Miyashiro has helped artists like Joji, Higher Brothers, and Rich Brian (formerly known as Rich Chigga) build massive followings and net millions of views on YouTube, where the rappers upload a steady stream of music videos. But even as their popularity skyrockets, some in the hip-hop community take issue with their lyrics—raising questions about the line between self-expression and cultural appropriation. For this episode of ‘MINORITY REPORTS,’ VICE’s Lee Adams met up with Miyashiro and a handful of high-profile Asian rappers—including $tupid Young, an Asian Crip unaffiliated with 88rising—to hear why they got into hip-hop, and what challenges they've faced while creating space for themselves as hip-hop's newest minorities. He also sat down with Ebro Darden—a Hot 97 morning host and Apple Music’s global editorial head of hip-hop and R&B—to hear his take on the cultural movement, exploring what separates contributing to hip-hop culture from misappropriating it. Morning Asian Altcoin Trading Roundup: the leader is Icon Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency and worldwide payment system. It is the first decentralized digital currency, as the system works without a central bank or single administrator. The network is peer-to-peer and transactions take place between users directly, without an intermediary. These transactions are verified by network nodes through the use of cryptography and recorded in a public distributed ledger called a blockchain. Bitcoin was invented by an unknown person or group of people under the name Satoshi Nakamoto and released as open-source software in 2009. Bitcoins are created as a reward for a process known as mining. They can be exchanged for other currencies, products, and services. As of February 2015, over 100,000 merchants and vendors accepted bitcoin as payment.[14] Research produced by the University of Cambridge estimates that in 2017, there are 2.9 to 5.8 million unique users using a cryptocurrency wallet, most of them using bitcoin. ► SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE VIDEOS: https://goo.gl/NYaHq2 ► Bitcoin News -Alt Coin news - coin telegraph - coindesk - coin market cap https://goo.gl/45UVFu ★★★ Thanks for watching! China Surpasses US to Become World's Leader in Trade

01:12
China surpasses the US to become the world's leader in trade. China has reportedly become the largest economic trading country in the world, finally passing the United States, which has held the top spot for decades. US imports and exports were valued at 3 point 82 trillion dollars during 2012, and China's customs administration said that their country's total trade was valued at 3 point 87 trillion last year. In addition to import and export figures, China had a trade surplus of over 200 billion dollars, while the US claimed a trade deficit of over 700 billion. The new data is a relief for economic analysts who foresaw a down turn for the economy of China. A report from the National Intelligence Council predicts that by 2030, China will be the largest economic power in the world. The report says that " ...by 2030, Asia will have surpassed North America and Europe combined in terms of global power, based upon GDP, population size, military spending, and technological investment. China alone will probably have the largest economy, surpassing that of the United States a few years before 2030." What do you think? Will China challenge the United States as the world's top economic super power?

The World Leader in Counterfeiting: Lima's Fake Dollars

21:34
Peru is the number one producer of counterfeit US dollars in the world. In 2015, just over 16 million forged bills seized in the US were of Peruvian origin, according to the US Secret Service. Millions of counterfeit euros and Peruvian soles have also been seized by police in Peru. The forged dollars are finished by hand, giving them an exceptional quality which has earned the country its top spot as leader of this illicit global trade. And for the criminal gangs counterfeit money is cheaper to produce than cocaine. Fernando Lucena goes undercover for VICE News to expose the illegal trade in counterfeit money and gets rare access to the criminal forgers who show us how these bills are made. Asian Pacific leaders seek to push freer trade agenda

02:41
(7 Sep 2012) Free trade was the key topic at an APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) CEO summit session held in the eastern Russian city of Vladivostok on Thursday, a day before the leaders' summit is due to begin. Trade ministers from nine countries involved in the U.S.-led Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) talks urged their negotiators to redouble efforts to achieve what is being billed as an "ambitious, next-generation" free trade agreement after struggling to strike a deal this year. The APEC forum aims to foster growth by dismantling barriers and bottlenecks that slow trade and business, while nurturing closer economic ties. "I am convinced that the high quality TPP is not only achievable but critical for growth in the region," said New Zealand's Prime Minister John Key. Countries which have joined the TPP so far are Australia, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States, and Vietnam. Canada and Mexico also recently received the go-ahead to join the bloc. As expected, on Thursday participants failed to reach their goal of setting a legal framework for the free trade initiative. David Pilling, the Asia Editor at the Financial Times Newspaper, blamed election-year politics and territorial spats for the TPP running "out of steam." "In America you have an election so we don't even know who is going to be President come next January so we are not sure, you know, quite what the American policy is going to be," said Pilling. "Japan also has elections, and Noda has backed the TPP but not very strongly and against the wishes of many people in the opposition and also within his own party," he added. Japan faces strong opposition from the agricultural sector and its leaders, preoccupied with tax reforms and domestic politics, and has so far been unable to join the negotiations. China, which some economists say is on course to overtake the U.S. as the world's biggest economy this decade, appears wary of backing a U.S.-led initiative, and it has commitments to rival free trade blocs in East and Southeast Asia. Russia, on the other hand, is enthusiastically engaging in the talks as it is keen to diversify its Euro-centric trade relationships and balance its growing reliance on dealing with China. "In the future, we see the accession of Russia to TPP. This is an important strategic initiative," said Andrei Belousov, Russian Economy Minister, at news conference in Vladivostock. "Although how fast we are going to move in that direction, of course, will be determined by current conditions and circumstances," he added. With Europe still mired in its debt crisis, Asia remains the biggest driver of global growth, despite a decline in powerhouse China's economic growth to a three-year low of 7.6 percent in the second quarter and signs Japan's own export-led recovery is sputtering. Accelerating work on a region-wide free-trade area could boost global demand by 2 (t) trillion U.S. dollars, or nearly 2 percent a year, said a report released Wednesday by the APEC-affiliated Pacific Economic Cooperation Council. Japan's Most Violent Biker Gang

33:14
Japanese motorcycle gangs have wreaked havoc since the 1970s. Known as Bosozuku, these gangs have a violent history, raging war against rival crews and cops. Gang members roamed the highways, sometimes hundreds at a time, with an array of brutal weaponry, customized bikes, and distinct crew jumpsuits. Being part of one of these motorcycle gangs was a frantic lifestyle, one that could easily lead to grievous bodily harm, and death. Youth were recruited from their early teens to join the gangs under the mentorship of an elder. It was of utmost importance to protect the reputation of the gang, to never run from a fight, even when grossly outnumbered. In recent years, with strict laws and police cracking down, Bosozoku have become nearly extinct. Yet for those who were a part of the subculture during its heyday, Bosozoku will always provide a fond memory of the recklessness of youth. Mission Leader - Donna Hardman "Senior Women Leaders - A Trade Mission with a difference"

05:26
Listen – Learn – Connect Senior Women Leaders – A Trade Mission with a difference Friday 26 October to Saturday 3 November 2018 Hosting Organisation: China Australia Trade and Investment Council Mission Leaders: Alice Tay and Donna Hardman Gold Sponsor: Villa World If you are a female Australian business leader looking for international business exposure and personal development, we would love to hear your story: http://catic.org.au/senior-women-leaders/. To tell us about yourself and explain why joining this mission is important to you and your sponsor organisation. This trade mission to China is an opportunity for senior Australian business women to gain experience and insights in to one of the world’s fastest growing and most influential trade zones while building relationships and connections to supercharge career progression and personal growth goals. Why China? China is an important region for an Australian Trade Mission. China is Australia’s largest trading partner. China is also the world’s second largest economy by nominal GDP and the largest by purchasing power parity. In 2016 the Chinese Government recognised that its traditional economy was on the wane. It needed a new industrial revolution to drive growth and jobs. This “new economy” goes beyond e-commerce, cloud and the internet of things to smart manufacturing and scaled up operations in primary production. All businesses from micro, small to large were encouraged to innovate. “The campaign of mass entrepreneurship and innovation is to put in place a platform for the development of various types of companies and research institutions, and to create a broad space for crowd funding, crowd innovation and crowd sourcing.” 2016 Premier Li Keqiang Meets the Press China is now a world leader in innovation. The explosive growth of the start-up scene in China is as much a cultural breakthrough as it is a great leap forward in tech expertise. Australian entrepreneurs and innovators compete for the scarce investor dollar therefore understanding China’s innovation ecosystem is fundamental business knowledge in today’s global economy. China is growing at triple the rate of most European nations. China has also opened its doors. The China International Import Expo in Shanghai this November is an invitation to the world to show its wares. The total economy of Asia surpassed all of the Americas back in 2016. Clearly, the “Asian Century” has arrived and Australians live in this region. Why Women? 妇女能顶半边天 “Women hold up half the sky”. Mao Zedong “When we unleash the power of women, we can secure the future for all.” Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General 2015. Like many change champions, the leaders of this mission – Alice Tay and Donna Hardman – have been working for over a decade to increase the number of women in senior leadership roles in Australia. They observe a global awakening to the value of gender equality feeling that the momentum for change is building. However, increasingly complex social and organisational structures mean that in order to make the difference – new thinking and courage – is required when women get there. Through a women only mission we aim to ‘unleash the power’ of our delegates. We offer an educative, supportive and safe environment for all to ‘have a go’ whenever you feel compelled to do so. Welcome addresses and messages of thanks, daily debriefing facilitation, media exposure and 1:1 cross-cultural, multi-language conversations will be on offer. Opportunities to get involved begin as soon as you are offered a place. When delegates return home insights can be leverage to improve our delegates thought-leadership positioning and new relationships may become referents and connectors to assist with future opportunities. Three key Goals – Outcomes Gain knowledge, insight and ideas – Play a leadership role in strategic conversations and decisions To be a senior business leader in Australia without a deep understanding of China is a significant knowledge gap. That is why the first goal of this mission to provide knowledge, insight and ideas that delegates can employ immediately to enrich strategic conversations, drive better decisions and spark ideas. Gain empathy for the Chinese people – Build stronger, more productive relationships Understanding another’s perspective is a key leadership skill. You don’t have to agree on every point but recognising different perspectives in conversations enables us to hear and react to things very differently. When The Dutch Ruled The World: Rise and Fall of the Dutch East India Company

The Netherlands is one of Europe's economic centers, despite its small size. This surprising twist of history is due, however, to a less savory turn of events. During the 16th century the Dutch were under the dominion of the Spanish Empire and they didn't like that very much. They fought for their independence for 80 years and their country suffered greatly because of it. Back then the Spanish controlled the lucrative Asian spice trade, which the Dutch economy relied on. However, when the Spanish closed off Lisbon (then the spice hub of the world) the Dutch had no choice but to sail to the Far East and claim the spice trade for themselves. While the Spanish were bogged down in a costly war against the English, the Netherlands swooped in and took over the Asian spice trade through their Dutch East India Company (VOC). In the span of a few decades this new business venture grew to massive proportions and funded the Dutch independence effort, as well as massive land reclamation. Eventually the VOC declined and a perfect storm of wars abroad and at home eventually destroyed it. But after two centuries of operation this one company left an impressive legacy of colonial scars and capitalist wealth that still influences the Netherlands to this day. Under the kind patronage of Nagabhushanam Peddi, James Gallagher & Brett Gmoser.

미국-아세안 정상회의 美서 개막…北-中 동시압박에 초점 U.S. President Barack Obama is due to kick off a two-day summit with ten Southeast Asian leaders at a plush resort in California. The top agendas will include maritime security and South China Sea disputes, the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade pact and North Korea's nuclear and missile provocations. Davos 2019: Raghuram Rajan Pitches For Greater Trade Collaboration Across Borders In South Asia

44:06
Former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan on Tuesday made a strong pitch for greater trade collaboration among countries in South Asia, including India and Pakistan, and said neighbors should shed fears about Indian dominance as competition would take care of those concerns. Speaking here at a session on strategic outlook for South Asia during the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting 2019, the Chicago University professor said India shares with its neighbors a variety of strengths and challenges. Like its neighbors, job creation is a big challenge for India as well, he said, adding that the country has done exceedingly well in the recent past and there is no reason why it should not continue to grow. USD licks its wounds in Asian trade (10.11.2017)

02:05
Today, the US dollar is gaining ground slowly but surely. Meanwhile, traders find it difficult to decide which asset to buy. The main obstacle to the greenback’s advance is disappointment with the US tax overhaul plan. Yesterday, the Senate Republicans unveiled their tax bill which differs from Donald Trump’s version. Moreover, investors are closely monitoring Donald Trump’s milestone tour to Asia. The US leader has not made progress in trade relations with China yet. Besides, the agreement on North Korea has not been signed yet. Despite headwinds, some traders are still betting on risky assets. In the Asian trade, the dollar/yen pair bounced from the low near 113.10 and is gradually moving upward. However, experts doubt that the pair will be able to reach 114.00. The AUD/USD surpassed the level of 0.76909 and afterward retreated to 0.7675. The Reserve Bank of Australia released the monetary policy statement. Its contents did not come as a surprise to investors. The board notes a steady pace of economic growth and expects the headline inflation to accelerate. Nevertheless, these remarks do not provide grounds for expectations that Australia’s central bank will tighten monetary policy in the short term. Today, the economic calendar is also scant with macroeconomic events. That is why currency analysts say that investors are going to lock in their profits before the weekend. https://www.instaforex.com FX Analytics - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_analytics Forex Calendar - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_calendar Forex TV from InstaForex - https://www.instaforex.com/instaforex_tv Forex charts - https://www.instaforex.com/charts Instant account opening - https://www.instaforex.com/fast_open_live_account Forex Trading Contests - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_contests List of official InstaForex blogs: https://www.facebook.com/instaforex https://www.instagram.com/instaforex/ https://twitter.com/InstaForex https://telegram.me/instaforex

German leader warns US against "trade war"

German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, has warned the United States against an all-out trade war with the European Union. Merkel was speaking at the German parliament three days after U-S President, Donald Trump, made new trade threats. Trump said he was considering import taxes of 20-percent on E-U cars. The two sides were already at odds over Trump’s increased tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from the E-U. The move prompted the E-U to slap tariffs on iconic U-S products, including jeans. Trump’s new tariffs on European products are part of his protectionist policy that have also targeted China.
