In this tutorial, you’ll get a quick but very powerful tip on how to optimize your PowerPoint setup and how to use the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) and custom shortcuts to save a ton of time when creating pitch books, presentations, stock pitches, and more. http://breakingintowallstreet.com/ "Financial Modeling Training And Career Resources For Aspiring Investment Bankers" Shortcuts Introduced: These are all BUILT-IN shortcuts: Alt, T, O: Options Menu Alt, H, G, A, L: Align Left Alt, H, G, A, T: Align Top Alt, H, FC: Font Color Shift + Left Click: Select Multiple Shapes Alt, H, G, A, V: Distribute Vertically Alt, H, G, A, H: Distribute Horizontally Alt, H, G, R: Bring to Front Ctrl + G: Group Shapes These are the NEW shortcuts you can create via the Quick Access Toolbar: Alt, 1, L: Align Left Alt, 1, T: Align Top Alt, 1: Alignment Commands Alt, 2: Font Color Alt, 1, L: Align Left Alt, 1, V: Distribute Vertically Alt, 1, H: Distribute Horizontally Alt, 6, R: Bring to Front Lesson Outline: Many PowerPoint shortcuts that you use repeatedly when creating presentations are actually cumbersome to enter. Something as simple as left alignment takes 5 keystrokes – Alt, H, G, A, L – if you use the built-in method for it. Other common commands such as distribution, font color changes, shape fill, shape outline, and shape insertion also take 3-4 keystrokes. A more efficient alternative is to set up the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) so that you can access the most common commands with shortcuts like Alt, 1; Alt, 2; Alt, 3; and so on instead. You can either import our file (see the link below under RESOURCES) or go to the Options menu (Alt, T, O) and then the Quick Access Toolbar tab, and create the menu yourself. We recommend setting “Align Objects” in position #1, followed by Font Color, Shape Fill, Change Outline Color, More Options, Arrange, and Font Size. Then, you can add the Rectangle command, Draw Horizontal Text Box, Shapes, Straight Connector, and Merge Shapes. These are some of the most frequently used commands in PowerPoint, and you’ll save a ton of time with the new, shorter versions. A command like Align that used to take 5 keystrokes now takes only 3 (Alt, 1, L/R/T/B) with this approach; even a command like Font Color that took 4 keystrokes before now takes only 2 (Alt, 2). You might see anywhere from 30% to 50% time savings when creating slides and manipulating text and objects if you set up these shortcuts properly. They’re especially useful on crowded slides with a lot of objects when you need to align and distribute shapes. http://www.katsonga.com/girlbanker Get, To Become An Investment Banker (The Book) USA: http://amzn.to/2bb5OFH UK: http://amzn.to/2aIoQAx @GirlBanker: https://twitter.com/#!/GirlBanker Your resume/CV is the first opportunity that you get to market yourself. Through your CV the recruiter decides whether or not to interview you and indeed, whether they 'like' you or not. You want everything about your resume/CV to say, I'm the person for this job, hire me! Here are some pointers to help you get noticed: 1. Avoid information overkill Try to keep it to one page but two pages is okay if there is a lot of white space. All important information should be on the first page; if page one is unimpressive the recruiter will not waste any time by going to page 2. 2. Bold the important facts so that they stand out Some people only skim read. If you bold your key selling points then they won't miss them. 3. Stick to short bullet points The maximum length of any bullet point should be two lines, ideally. It stops the reader from getting bored. Don't use a narrative style, write in short punchy sentences. 4. Don't make any grammatical or spelling errors - not even one. Such mistakes say: I am lazy I have poor attention to detail I'm not not client-ready I can't work independently I'm a poor quality hire 5. Only include facts that make you relevant to the job at hand A resume / CV is a snapshot of your qualifications for a specific job. You don't need to include: Interests or hobbies, unless they directly add to your value as a new hire Previous salaries Reasons for leaving former jobs 6. Don't mass produce your resume / CV Unless you are applying for identical roles in different companies, you should not send identical resumes/ CVs out. Customise them according to what you are applying for. If you're applying to a TMT Team in IBD mention things that highlight your tech knowledge. Can you build apps and websites? Which web building languages do you use? Although you won't be doing any of this stuff it shows you are plugged in to the psyche of the tech world. If you are applying to a Healthcare team that tech knowledge is going to look misplaced so you'd include less of it. 7. Lacking relevant work experience? Focus on your skills. Even if you have never worked before, whatever life experiences you have, there will be some transferable skills. Organisational skills developed as result of being the eldest of five children? Experience dealing with difficult situations as a result of being the Head of House at school? Mental perseverance developed from being a top athlete or musician at school and having to train for crazy hours when most of your friends were chilling and having a laugh. 8. Don't hide anything Make sure to have dates clearly displayed so it doesn't seem as though you're hiding career gaps. 9. Don't lie or exaggerate achievements Investment banks do background checks on all CVs, especially if you are an experienced hire so they will find out anything that is not true. 10. Get a second opinion Even if you cannot afford professional help a friend will be able to point out typos that you might have missed and other irrelevant detail. Try to ask a friend that has some experience with looking for jobs as they'll know a little more about what employers are looking for. If you can afford it, getting an independent investment banking coach/mentor will help to place you ahead of the competition. Here is an example of a good resume / CV, it's the actual CV I used to move from IBD to Derivative Sales without any changes. It's not 100% perfect but I purposefully haven't changed it because I wanted to use a real CV that got a real job. http://www.katsonga.com/girlbanker Get, To Become An Investment Banker (The Book) USA: http://amzn.to/2bb5OFH UK: http://amzn.to/2aIoQAx @GirlBanker: https://twitter.com/#!/GirlBanker

Other People's Money by Louis D. Brandeis - FULL Audio Book | Money, Wealth, Business, Politics - Other People's Money and How the Bankers Use It is a collection of essays written by Louis Brandeis published as a book in 1914. The book attacked the use of investment funds to promote the consolidation of various industries under the control of a small number of corporations, which Brandeis alleged were working in concert to prevent competition. Brandeis harshly criticized investment bankers who controlled large amounts of money deposited in their banks by middle-class people. The heads of these banks, Brandeis pointed out, routinely sat on the boards of railroad companies and large industrial manufacturers of various products, and routinely directed the resources of their banks to promote the interests of their own companies. These companies, in turn, sought to maintain control of their industries by crushing small businesses and stamping out innovators who developed better products to compete against them. Brandeis supported his contentions with a discussion of the actual dollar amounts -- in millions of dollars -- controlled by specific banks, industries, and industrialists such as J. P. Morgan, noting that these interests had recently acquired a far larger proportion of American wealth than corporate entities had ever had before. He extensively cited testimony from a Congressional investigation performed by the Pujo Committee, named after Louisiana Representative Arsène Pujo, into self-serving and monopolistic business dealing. The book received great publicity at the time, and was widely lauded by legal academics. Attention to the book was amplified by Brandeis' nomination to the Supreme Court of the United States in 1916.(Summary by Wikipedia) - SUBSCRIBE to Greatest Audio Books: http://www.youtube.com/GreatestAudioBooks - Become a FRIEND: Facebook: http://www.Facebook.com/GreatestAudioBooks Google+: - READ along by clicking (CC) for Closed Caption Transcript! - LISTEN to the entire audiobook for free! Investment banks encourage faulty risk management because the risks are "not internalized by the people that are taking them." Question: Is the investment banking model fundamentally flawed? Robert Engle: My way of understanding this financial crisis is in terms of two different observations. One is that risk managers and investment bankers and actually, all kinds of investors took on more risk than they expected. So there was a failure of risk management. There was a failure to recognize how much risk there was in some of these securities that people bought. But a second and perhaps more important point is that many of these same people were paid very well to ignore the risks, and so there are incentives which are -- which distort our ability to measure risk. That is, many times we're not risking our own money, we're risking somebody else's money, or maybe that someone is going to back stop or downside, but we still get the upside. There are a lot of ways that investment banking models work, but these risks are not internalized by the people that are taking them. And so, I think that's something that investment banks have worried about for a long time and are continuing to worry about, but it's not an easy solution when you have lots of people betting the company's money, how do you really allocate those risks? How do you make sure that the people that take the risks are feeling the risks in an appropriate kind of fashion? Question: Do you agree with author Nassim Taleb that we put too much faith in financial experts?Robert Engle: Oh well I would agree with that. I don't agree -- I agree with a lot of the points in Taleb's book, but I don't agree with many of his conclusions. It seems to me that he rightly points out that risk managers miss a lot of the risks, but the conclusion is that he draws, is that we should abandon risk management, whereas my conclusion is we should improve it. I don't see what the alternative to risk management is. If it's just getting rid of the models and instead using the smart people who can figure it out? How do you train them? What do you teach them? Do you just put them in a cockpit and let them stumble for 10 years of their life and then after that they're good at it? I think that **** have gotten so complicated that we need risk management, but we just need to make it better. We need to be able to understand better where these risks are coming from. And I think actually one of the -- coming back to one of your previous points about investment strategies. One of the things we might come out of this crisis and I think that Nassim is sort of an example of this as well is that we might invest a part of our assets in portfolios that we don't expect to do well not, but we would expect them to do well if we have another crisis. And this is a different way of thinking about asset allocation. It's an old idea in economics, but it hasn't' really been at the center of much investment analysis, but I think now there's a lot of interest in these so called hedge portfolios which will out perform in a crisis. I mean, we've always had gold bugs, but now we sort of realize that Treasure Bills might be in the same category. And we have derivatives like credit default swaps which are in this category, and we have derivatives like volatilities that are actually an asset class that we can invest in which are now -- would out perform if we have another financial crisis. And so thinking about these different assets and I should say, this extends to lots of other kinds of long term risks, for example, if we think about the long term risks of global warming. You know, some of the portfolios we might consider buying are portfolios which would do especially well if we have an economy-wide, or I mean, a global climate change that impacts us very negatively there are some companies that will do well, and so it might make sense to hold some of those in your portfolio. You’ll learn tricks for achieving normally impossible alignments and distributions in this tutorial, and you’ll see several examples of slides for company profiles that you could use in pitch books and other presentations. http://breakingintowallstreet.com/ "Financial Modeling Training And Career Resources For Aspiring Investment Bankers" Shortcuts Introduced (These require PowerPoint 2010 or later): Shift + Click Select Multiple Shapes Alt, N, SH Insert Shape Shift + Draw Line Draw Straight Line Alt, H, G, A, C Align Center Alt, H, G, A, M Align Middle Alt, H, G, A, H Distribute Horizontally Alt, H, G, A, V Distribute Vertically Ctrl + G Group Ctrl + Shift + G Ungroup Shift + Drag Shape Move Shape & Keep Horizontal or Vertical Axis Constant Lesson Outline: You often use company profiles in pitch books and other presentations in investment banking to highlight potential buyers and sellers – which companies might be interested in buying or selling, and what do their financial profiles look like? Short profiles are fairly simple to create, but in longer profiles (2 pages or beyond), sometimes you run into alignment problems when there are multiple graphs or charts within a single “box” or area of the slide, and you need to distribute them properly. It won’t work correctly if you select smaller shapes and attempt to align them to the middle or center or distribute them using the built-in commands – instead, you have to create fake “reference lines” on both sides of the shape across which you’re distributing the smaller shapes. In this case, we create those lines around the blue text box and around the text labels below it. With those lines (Alt, N, SH to create a shape) in place, you can then select those lines, the smaller shapes you want to distribute, and then distribute everything horizontally (Alt, H, G, A, H) or vertically (Alt, H, G, A, V). Sometimes you will have to align these “fake lines” to the left, right, top or bottom of shapes to get the proper alignment (Alt, H, G, A, L for Left, R for Right, T for Top, and B for Bottom). You can do this multiple times for as many shapes or areas as you need – afterward, you always finish off the exercise by deleting the lines since you don’t want to see them in the final version of the slides. Credit: Taylor Croonquist from Nuts and Bolts Training came up with this trick and called these lines “Ninja Lines.” Here, we’re just showing you how to apply the lines to investment banking-style presentations. Note: Also, in our (new) PowerPoint course, we recommend customizing the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) to create your own shortcuts for common commands. We SKIPPED that here because it’s outside the scope of this tutorial, but in real life you would use shorter shortcuts for all these commands. Use your university's careers service. Investment banks may visit your university specifically to recruit the best scholars. If you are at a top-end university they may even have a unique recruitment program/process for your institution that you can use. Even if you graduated ages ago, call up your university to check if they have resources that might help you in your job search. I recently discovered that the university of Cambridge offers lifetime help and support to alumni, I had no idea. I am sure this is not unique to my university. 2. Apply directly via the bank's website. Your university careers service won't have knowledge on every single investment bank. It is definitely worth exploring the careers section of banks independently and applying more widely to increase your chances of becoming an investment banker. Use http://www.katsonga.com/girlbanker/top-50-investment-banks-which-investment-bank-should-you-apply-to for quick links. 3. Call up some headhunters If you have work experience that investment banks would find valuable above the entry level, you can use headhunters. If you're young and haven't started your career yet, this route is mostly closed to you. In a recession, headhunters' books will also be thin but the very best ones will still have access to new positions especially at the senior level. Call them up and get your resume/CV in front of them. Whichever method you use, network proactively. Get to know people connected to the industry and learn as much as you can from each. http://www.katsonga.com/girlbanker Get, To Become An Investment Banker (The Book) USA: http://amzn.to/2bb5OFH UK: http://amzn.to/2aIoQAx @GirlBanker: https://twitter.com/#!/GirlBanker

There is no question that the best investment you can make in yourself is reading books. There is nothing that compares with the ROI of reading and taking action on what that book provides. You’ve heard me talk about how wealthy people read books. It's not just me saying this, I wanted to bring on a few people to share results they have achieved by reading. If you stay until the end I will share the book that has helped me make over a million dollars. Gee Nontreah. [4:31] In the summer of 2017 I picked up a book called The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson. The author talks about taking little steps and actions. I did not have an emergency fund at that time, but by using tips in this book, within 4-5 months my emergency fund held $1,000. The tips in the book also allowed me to pay70% of my credit card debt. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1iiWwey0mEF9X77M5qylPg Eric Rosenberg. [7:19] My favorite book that has changed how I make money is The Art of Non-Conformity by Chris Guillebeau. I used to have a typical 8-6 job, this book taught me that you don’t have to run your career the way other people expect. Following points in this book, I rebuilt my career, side hustled hard and then took my side hustle full time. I am now making up to 10,000 every month. That is not my biggest month, by far. Joseph Hogue [9:08] In 2014 I had just started my own websites. I wasn’t making as much money as I had hoped. I was frustrated and would have given up if it weren’t for the book Write. Publish. Repeat. By Sean Platt and Johnny B. Truant. This book helped me see how to fit self-publishing into my blog. This created a new income stream through self-publishing. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbKdotYtcY9SxoU8CYAXdvg Roger Whitney [10:53] The book that led to significant growth in my business is Linchpin by Seth Godin. I was really challenged to ‘take it to the next level.’ I started a Podcast, grew my business over 50%, wrote a book, and made friends all over the world. https://www.youtube.com/user/retirementanswerman Nick True [13:24] The book I have chosen in Profit First by Mike Michalowicz. I implemented the system I learned from this book 5 months ago and have an additional $8,000 in my personal account and $2,000 in a business profit account. Building a profitable business is a slow process, this book has changed the game for me. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfRqvJFJ6LLQ62lKmOUXATw Chris Mamula [16:19] The book that gave me the biggest return was The Simple Part to Wealth by J. L. Collins. Prior to finding that book, I was intimidated by investing and was getting horrible advice from others. Within a year or reading I saved $8,000 in investment fees and $8,000 in taxes. That is 1,000 times return in just one year. Bob Lotich [17:44] I am forever indebted to Tim Ferris and The 4 Hour Workweek. I didn’t apply everything from the book, but if you take one thing and apply that you can make a huge difference. I took this to heart and took a year off last year! It started with small steps like a week off, then a month off. https://www.youtube.com/user/ChristianPFdotcom Jordan Harbinger [18:48] One book that I really liked was Friend of a Friend by David Burkus. David talks about opportunistic network maintenance. He recommends using social channels to connect with friends when they have important life events like a new child, etc. When we see their posts, reach out to them through text, call, or in-person. This has created a ton of opportunities. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGLcx_fFZ3GlLXO5anHSm9w David Pere [20:06] For me Never Split The Difference by Chris Voss was life changing. This has changed the way I handle negotiations. Immediately after reading this book I saved over $3,000 negotiating the repair on an apartment complex I was buying. I hope you enjoyed learning about these books and the amazing results these people have seen. My book is Crush it by Gary Vaynerchuk. I read this book when I had just started my blog and social media. Watching Gary and reading this book has helped me use available tools to get my message out there. It pushed me to take it to the next level. I know that I am not the only one and neither are the people you’ve seen on this video. What was the one book you read that inspired you to take action? Tell us about that action and the results in the comments. ☆★ Want More Good Financial Cents? ★☆ 💻 Check out my blog here: https://www.goodfinancialcents.com/ Listen to my podcast here: 🎙 https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/good-financial-cents-podcast-investing-building-wealth/id775107294?mt=2 Pick up my best selling book, Soldier of Finance, here: 📗 http://amzn.to/2xOH78V Connect with me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/jjeffrose My most favorite inspiration T-shirt line, Compete Every Day: 👕 https://www.goodfinancialcents.com/compete

I’m a Investment banker for more than 2 years. Investment Bank with example! M&A and Fundraising with Example! IB Vs Equity Research! Many people want to enter Investment Banking arena like many MBA graduates or engineers, but don’t know how to enter, and google supriselingly doesn’t provide much information about Investment Bank. Today, we will learn what is Investment Banking, how it is different from Equity Research, Type of Investment Banking, How Investment Bank earns revenue? Basically Investment Bank works in two ways- a) Fundraising- they help companies to raise funds for expansion, new product launch, etc, b) M&A- where one company want to merge or acquire into another company Let me explain you in detail: a) Fundraising-raising funds from Private equity/venture capital, b) raising funds from strategic investors. A) raising from PE/VC guys- Example, lets says zomato wants to raise funds- around 250 million, 500 million, what they will do, they will hire Investment bank like Avendus (it’s a big IB in India), Avendus Investment Bank will study the deal, analyse it and prepare Financial model, Information memorandum and teaser/pitch books. So, Avendus Investment Bank will approach the rich people like Private equity/venture capital to raise funds for Zomato. In return, zomato will pay sum % to Avendus for closing the deal. B) Mahindra wants to raise capital for 250 million or 500 million, here Mahindra company says we want a strategic partner (raising funds from same industry like competitor), so Mahindra company will hire Avendus Investment bank to study the company & will pitch it to same industry players in automotive segment like Mahindra is in, like toyata, honda or tata motors.

Financial Markets (2011) (ECON 252) Professor Shiller characterizes investment banking by contrasting it to consulting, commercial banking, and securities trading. Then, in order to see the essence of investment banking, he reviews some of the principles that John Whitehead, the former chairman of Goldman Sachs, has formulated. These principles are the basis for a discussion of the substantial power that investment bankers have, and their role in society. Government regulation of these powerful investment banks has been a thorny issue for many years, and especially so now since they played a significant role in world financial crisis of the 2000s. 00:00 - Chapter 1.
