Following its announcement of the Redmi 5 in India yesterday, Xiaomi has today, announced the Mi Exchange program. This allows phone owners purchase a new Xiaomi phone for less by exchanging their current phone for a coupon.To use the Mi Exchange program, there are four steps you need to go through.
First, head to the exchange site and evaluate your old device. At the moment you can exchange phones from the following brands – Xiaomi, Samsung, Sony, HTC, Motorola, Micromax, Gionee, OPPO, ASUS, Lenovo, OnePlus, Huawei, Vivo, LeTv, and Google (Nexus and Pixel).
After selecting your phone’s brand and model, you get an estimated price (I got INR 10,550 (~$162) for my OnePlus 3T). Your phone’s IMEI number is required before you get the exchange coupon which will be sent to your Mi account.Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi has made it easier for customers to purchase its devices after bringing its Mi Exchange program to Mi.com online store. So how do you make use of the Mi Exchange program? Here's a step-by-step guide
Choose your smartphone brand from the list of 15 brands that are eligible for the Exchange program. If your device is not from one of these 15 companies, then you will not be eligible for the program. After selecting your model to provide your IMEI number. The user must also ensure that the phone does not have cracks on screen, body dents and similar kind of damage.
After agreeing to all the T&C's and completing the actions required in Step 1, the user shall receive a coupon code. The amount of this coupon code will be credited your Mi account and can be used to purchase a new Xiaomi phone at Mi.com.
Using this coupon on Mi.com while purchasing a device will automatically discount its price by the amount credited to your Mi account.
After you have placed the order, a Xiaomi executive will come to collect your device at the time of delivery of your new product. However, if Xiaomi sees that the product is not eligible for exchange, your order will be cancelled and your money will be refunded.
You can not exchange more than one device at a time. Also, you cannot provide separate addresses for delivery and pick up as both of them need to happen simultaneously. Once your older device has been exchanged it will not be returned to the owner.
Xiaomi’s Mi Exchange scheme has now been expanded to Mi.com. The Mi Exchange scheme was introduced in November last year. The trade-in offer allows users to exchange their old smartphones for a new Redmi or Mi phone. Xiaomi has launched this Mi Exchange scheme in partnership with Cashify and was limited to Mi Home Stores till now. The company says it will offer the ‘best exchange’ value for the user’s device, though it needs to be in a working condition with no physical damage.
Those exchanging their old smartphone online will be issued an exchange value coupon, which will be credited to the user’s Mi account. The coupon amount can then be used against the price of the smartphone which the user plans to purchase from Mi.com. Xiaomi’s exchange value coupon will be valid for 14 days. Do note that this coupon issued under Mi exchange can only be used to purchase a new smartphone and not other devices or accessories.
Xiaomi’s exchange value coupon can be used during checkout, after placing an order for a new smartphone. The old device has to be handed over in exchange for the new Redmi or Mi smartphone at the time of delivery to the company’s executive. Users will need to disable all the screen locks on their old smartphone, unlock accounts and remove any memory card when handing this over during exchange. Only one device at a time will be eligible for exchange.
