Last week gave markets a lot of volatility with the Federal Reserve raising their interest rate with 0.25% to which all three trading instruments reacted by climbing up. This week will have some other interesting events, mainly for the GBP/USD as action on Brexit is expected from the British government, which coupled with data on inflation will provide more energy to the pound. A Simple Forex Strategy: Interest Rates + External Debt/GDP + Trading Ranges

05:00
Discuss this with us here: http://www.informedtrades.com/608804-simple-forex-strategy-interest-rates-external-debt-accumulation-distribution.html#post667513 This video discusses a simple forex trading strategy. Here are the key points: 1. Limit ourselves to 9 currencies: USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, NZD, AUD, CAD, CHF, SGD 2. Sort them by their overnight interest rates. 3. Sort them by their external debt/GDP ratios. 4. Out of the 9 currencies, look for currencies that have both a low interest rate and a high external debt/GDP ratio relative to the others; that is the currency to short. Likewise, go long the currency with both a high interest rate and a low external debt/GDP ratio. 5. This tells us the currency pair and the direction to trade in. Then, look for trading ranges to appear on the chart. Put your stop loss outside of the trading range, and exit after the market trends and a new trading range forms that signals the end of a short-term trend. Of course, trade management can get much more sophisticated as you learn more about money management and technical analysis. This strategy is just a simple starting point.

Trading the Yield Curve Via Interest Rate Futures | Closing the Gap: Futures Edition

16:20
Get an introduction to what the Yield Curve of Interest Rate futures plots, how to set up trades based on your outlook of changing rates, and how to add a /GC position to enhance your trading strategy! See more videos from the Closing the Gap: Futures Edition Series: http://ow.ly/Tv73h Interest Rate Futures allow traders to make plays on varying treasury durations and their current and future yields/rate changes. The TUT Spread is an important gauge using the 10 Year Notes (/ZN) and the 2 Year Notes (/ZT). It is used as a potential indicator of how interest rates might change in the future and of current and future economic conditions. Subtracting the Ten Year Yield from the 2 Year Yield, historically, the difference right now is at the lower end of its range. In order to trade these types of extremes on the yield curve, hedge ratios must be used to create a neutral position (because of the varying maturities). This is calculated using the delta of a bond, which is also called the dollar-value of a basis point (DV01). Find out how to create these neutral positions in order to play the "flattening" or "steepening" of the yield curve, and discover how adding Gold Futures (/GC) to the position can enhance returns and provide protection if directionally wrong. The gap between the self-directed and institutional trader in the world of Futures gets closer as Tom and Tony go head-to-head with one of the Futures market industry's best institutional traders. 108. How Interest Rates Move the Forex Market Part 1

04:21
http://www.informedtrades.com/25425-how-interest-rates-move-forex-market-part-1-a.html Like current and future earnings prospects are the most important factors to consider when trying to forecast the long term direction of a stock, current and future interest rate prospects are the most important factors to consider when trying to forecast the long term direction of a currency. Because of this fact, currencies are highly sensitive to any economic news that can affect the country's interest rates, an important factor for traders of all time frames to understand. As we learned in module 8 of our free basics of trading course located in the free course section of InformedTrades.com, when the central bank of a country raises interest rates this not only affects the short term rate that they target, but the interest rates for all types of debt instruments. If the central bank of a country raises interest rates then debt instruments of all types are going to become more attractive to investors, all else being equal. This not only means that foreign investors are more likely to invest in the debt of that country, but also that domestic investors are less likely to look outside the country for higher yield, creating more demand for the debt of that country and driving the value of the currency up, all else being equal. Conversely, when a central bank lowers interest rates, then interest rates on all types of debt instruments for that country are going to be less attractive to investors, all else being equal. This not only means that both foreign and domestic investors are less likely to invest in the debt of that country, but that they are also more likely to pull money out to seek higher returns in other countries, creating less demand for, and a greater market supply of that currency, and driving its value down, all else being equal. Once this is understood, it is next important to understand that foreign investors are exposed to not only the potential profit or loss from interest rate changes on the debt instrument they are investing in, but also to profits and losses which result from fluctuations in the value of that country's currency. This is an important concept to understand, as it generally will work to increase the profits for investors when interest rates increase, as the increase in the value of the currency is realized when they sell the investment and convert back into their home country's currency. This gives the foreign investor that much extra return on their investment, and that much extra incentive to invest when interest rates rise, driving the value of the currency up further all else being equal. Conversely when interest rates decrease, there will be less demand for the debt instruments of a country not only because of the lower yield to investors, but also because of the decrease in the value of the currency that normally comes with a decrease in interest rates. The additional whammy of a loss to the foreign investor from the currency conversion that results as part of the investment, further incitivizes them to put their money elsewhere, decreasing the value of the currency further, all else being equal.

3 Ways to Trade Interest Rates & Treasuries | Closing the Gap: Futures Edition

13:21
When it comes to treasury futures, yields and prices have an inverse relationship. Rather than speculating an outright move in a certain maturity treasury product, traders often look to spreads as a means of taking advantage of changing interest rates. tastytrade presents some trade ideas based on the relationship between 10 Year Treasury Notes (/ZN) and Bonds (/ZB), known as the NOB spread. Find out how to properly set up this spread based on the "Delta" of each product's maturity and whether or not you believe the yield curve will "flatten" or "steepen." Plus, get a few more trade ideas that incorporate ETFs and allow traders to reduce their exposure and margin requirement. Lesson 2 - Earning interest in Forex and other portfolio strategies

08:49
Another unique factor in forex trading is Interest, or carry. Each currency pair has an interest payment or charge associated with holding the position long or short. For instance, on some pairs, a payment may be made if you are in a long position, and a charge is made if you are short the pair. That charge or payment is the interest or carry for that particular pair. "Interest," and "carry" are terms used by your dealer to describe this interest premium paid or charged on each forex pair. The amount charged or received on each of your forex positions can be seen on the MetaTrader 4 application in the "Terminal." The premium can change on a daily basis but typically not dramatically. This interest premium is derived from the difference in short term interest rates between the two economies represented by the currencies in the pair you are trading. The short term interest rates used are the overnight LIBOR rates. These are typically set by the British Banker's Association and are changed on a daily basis. Interest on Wednesdays A surprising fact for many new forex traders is that the interest payment or charge is tripled on Wednesdays. This extra payment is to cover the interest that would normally have been paid on Saturday and Sunday when the market is unavailable for trading.

EUR/USD and GBP/USD waiting for GDP and Interest Rate: Oct 23 – 27, 2017

09:59
This week promises to be more interesting than the last one in Forex. With three immense economic events coming in quick succession it promises to deliver some volatility for the Pound, Euro and the Dollar. David previews the three data points first focusing on the Euro where the currency pair has been trading in a range for the past several weeks. The trend from the last six or so months has been depleted and to pattern lovers it looks like a head and shoulders formation but this week’s ECB interest rate announcement on Thursday will be the main inflection point. UK GDP will influence the GBP/USD, the number is due on Wednesday and will provide clues as to how the economy is faring in these tumultuous times. Uncertainty continues to grow about the Brexit talks and if there are first indications of an impact on the economy from the referendum. The key levels to watch are 1.302 on the downside and 1.333. At Trading 212 we provide an execution only service. This video should not be construed as investment advice. Investments can fall and rise. Capital at risk. CFDs are higher risk because of leverage.

How to trade the August BOE interest rate decision

08:34
On August 4th, the BOE will announce there interest rate decision. The expectations is for a cut of 25 basis points to 0.25%. What do they say in the statement? Do they do more QE? Do they surprise and say they don't have enough information yet? The pair has rallied over the last few days and settles between the 100 and 200 bar MA on the 4-hour chart. To me, that is the market positioning itself for whatever the BOE has to say and what they do. Move below the lower MA and the bias is increasingly more bearish. Move above the higher MA and that bias is more bullish. The point is, those MAs will be key in the trading after the event. Take a look. If you like be sure to hit thumbs up. If you don't like, click thumbs down. Comments are welcomed.
