This is a practical vocabulary lesson about words we use at the bank. Banking has a set of specialized vocabulary, and you may be nervous to go to the bank in an English-speaking country. But knowing some useful words will make it easy and pleasant for you. In this lesson, I will teach you the meaning of "bank teller", "PIN", "investments", "account", "deposit", "withdraw", and many more terms associated with going to the bank. If you want to feel more confident when going to the bank and speaking in English, watch this lesson and complete the quiz. After that, you'll be in business! http://www.engvid.com/real-english-vocabulary-at-the-bank/ TRANSCRIPT Hi, everyone. I'm Alex. Thanks for clicking, and welcome to this lesson on "Bank Vocabulary". Today, we're going to talk about going to the bank, and the different things you can do, and the different verbs associated and nouns associated with this very common experience. So, first, when you enter the bank, you have to "get in line" or "get in the queue". Now, specifically, in the United States, even in Canada, we use the word "line" when you're waiting to see someone at the bank. If you are in other parts of the world, specifically England, you can also call a line a "queue", so you get in the queue or get in line. Next, once it's your turn to, you know, do your business at the bank, you see a "bank teller". So, the name of the person who helps you at the bank is the teller. And after you see the bank teller, if you already have an account with the bank, you have to use your bank card and put in your "PIN". Your "PIN" is your personal identification number, your code, your password. Right? Now, once this is done, you're ready, the bank teller can see your account. Or maybe it's your first time and you didn't put in a PIN, there are different things you can do and ask for when you're at the bank. Number one, you can say: "Hi. I'd like to open an account", or "close an account". Now, again the two most common types of accounts at a bank are a checking account and a savings account. So your checking is your everyday spending. This is what you use your debit card for. Right? So, I'm just going to put "debit card" here. Your debit card is your bank card, and this is what you use to make payments when you go out to restaurants, movie theaters, etc. Okay, you can also transfer money when you are at the bank. So if you'd like to move some money from your checking account, for example, to one of your other accounts, such as a savings account or maybe a joint account that you have with your partner, husband, wife, etc., you can ask to do that. You can say: "Hi. I'd like to transfer $200 from my checking account to my savings account." And again, this is if you don't do online banking, which solves a lot of these issues. Now, instead of transferring money, you can also "deposit" money or "make a deposit". This means you are putting money into your accounts. So if you, you know, receive a check from the government, for example, or maybe your workplace still gives checks (it still happens, it does), you can deposit that check. And "deposit it" means put that money into your account. You can "withdraw". Now, "to withdraw" is to take out money. So, these two are really the most common verbs when you're talking about exchanging money with the bank, whether you're in the bank or at an ATM machine. So you deposit, which means you put money in; withdraw means you take money out. So you can withdraw or take out money. And the term we can also use is you can make a "withdrawal". And you'll see the "al" here, this means that, again, this is a noun in this case. The verb, there's no "al" at the end; it's just "withdraw". Withdraw money. You can "pay a bill". So, again, bills are our favourite things in the world, like pay for your electricity at your house, or your television, internet, etc. Now, again, this doesn't only have to be for those common things, because most people today, you have an automatic withdraw happens when you pay for a bill. But again, sometimes you get something where you have to go to the bank to pay the bill. If you get something from the Ministry of Transportation or something from the government, and it's unclear what you have to do to pay something online, you can go to the bank and you can pay that bill. Also, you can "exchange currency". So if you are travelling somewhere and you only have money from your country, you can change that money. And again, the name for "money" in this case is "currency", like the dollar is one type of currency, the yen is another type of currency. And you can ask the bank: "What's your rate?" because different places, exchange offices, banks, will have different rates for your currency. So, for example, the bank might say, if I'm travelling from Canada to the United States, they might say: "95 cents per dollar." Okay? So for every dollar that I have Canadian, I receive 95 cents American.

Methods of Payment in International Trade: In this video, we discussed methods of payment in international trade (Hindi/Urdu) -international payment methods(import-export), mode of payments in Import Export. Subscribe to our channel for more videos. http://www.pakistancustoms.net/2018/01/Methods-of-Payment-in-International-Trade-HINDI-URDU-International-Payment-Methods.html Mode of payments in Exports and Imports: The Major ways of making payment for export of goods are: 1. Advance payment Which is the best method of payment in an export trade? What type of terms of payment can I adopt an Export business? Under any kind of sales, obviously, advance payment is the best option for payment. Ok, now the terms of payments are concerned, you are very happy if you get payment in advance. Right? Yes, the 100% safe business in any business, especially in export business, is nothing but receiving the advance payment. However, in this present competitive world, you do not expect advance payment from the buyer in all cases unless your product attracts some specific reasons to pay you to advance payment by your buyer. 2. Letter of credit.( L.C.) Letter of credit is an assurance given by the buyer’s bank to remit the amount to the seller through seller’s bank on maturity, as per the terms and conditions of the document based on the contractual agreement between buyer and seller. Now in simple words, If LC opened on your name, you will receive amount through the buyer’s bank on the agreed time. There are various types of letters of credits like Revocable, Irrevocable, Confirmed, Unconfirmed, Clean & Documentary, Fixed, Revolving, Transferable, Back to Back etc. Most common and safe LC is Irrevocable Letter of Credit. I will explain in details about all types of LC in other videos. 3. DP basis - Documents against Payments: What is DP term of payment? How does DP term of payment work? DP OR DAP term of payment is one of the terms of payment in international trade. D.A.P or D/P terms of payment means, Documents Against Payment. Once cargo shipped out from supplier’s premises, after completing necessary export legal formalities of exporting country, he hands over goods to the carrier who transport to the final destination of a buyer. After delivery of goods, the exporter is issued Bill of Lading (undersea shipment) or Airway Bill (under air shipment) by Carrier or his agent. Exporter submits all required documents along with Bill of Lading /Airway bill, invoice, packing list, bill of exchange with the bank to send to the buyer through buyer’s bank. The seller’s bank, once after verification sends these shipping documents to the buyer through buyer’s bank. After receipt of such shipping documents by buyer’s bank notifies buyer on receipt of documents and advise to ‘accept’ the documents by effecting payment of export proceeds. Under a DP terms of payment (DAP terms of payment), the buyer collects original shipping documents from his bank after making necessary payment against the sale of goods. 4. D.A terms means Documents against Acceptance Payment terms ‘DA’ means Documents against Acceptance. As per D.A terms, once the shipping documents along with bills of exchange received by the buyer’s bank, the buyer is informed to accept documents from buyer’s bank. The buyer accepts documents by signing bills of exchange sent by the exporter, agreeing to pay the value of goods shipped as per agreed period of time. (say, 30 days from the date of bill of lading, 60 days from the date of bill of lading or 90 days from the date of bill of lading). Importer receives original shipping documents by ‘accepting’ bill of exchange. He completes import customs clearance procedures with the said original shipping documents and approach carrier to deliver cargo to him after completion of such import customs clearance. The payment against the sale of goods is effected upon the maturity day mentioned in the bill of exchange. Documents against Acceptance - Is it safe for the seller? In payment terms, is DA safe for an Exporter? Does importer make payment on maturity of the contracted period? How reliable DA terms in exports? As per my opinion, the legal strength on D.A terms is very weak in international legal terms. Ok, if you have a strong business relationship with your buyer, you can ship goods on ‘credit’ basis. A proper study of the buyer’s creditworthiness is a dare need while shipping under D.A.terms. India Post Payments Bank full Features India Post Payments Bank has been incorporated as a public sector company under the department of posts, with 100% government equity and is governed by the Reserve Bank of India. Two pilot branches were inaugurated in Raipur and Ranchi on 30 January 2017. In January 2015, the centre had announced that it was considering a legislature to finalize the setting up of the bank, and applied for a banking licence. In the following month, the centre, as part of its budget announcement, said India Post would use its network to run a payments bank. India Post Payments Bank or IPPB has come up with 3 types of savings accounts, each with a different set of features and benefits. Pick the one that suits your needs. None of the three India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) savings accounts allows you to open a joint account. You also don’t get a cheque book, debit card or ATM card but a QR card, which allows you the benefit of all three. Nikhil Agarwal India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), which started functioning this month, is offering 3 types of zero-balance savings accounts with multiple benefits, including unlimited withdrawals and deposits besides doorstep banking. All the 3 IPPB savings accounts offer some common features and benefits, including 4% interest rate, no minimum balance, etc. As per RBI rules, you can’t hold more than Rs 1 lakh in all payments bank accounts but you can open a post office bank account where any amount in excess of Rs 1 lakh will be transferred. None of these IPPB savings accounts allows you to open a joint account. You also don’t get a cheque book, debit card or ATM card but a QR card, which allows you the benefit of all three. Here is a look at the 3 types of IPPB savings accounts and how to choose the one that suits you. Digital savings account: If you don’t have the time to visit a post office to open an IPPB account, for which you may have to stand in a queue, then you can download the IPPB app and open a digital savings account instantly and in a paperless manner. All you need is your PAN card number and Aadhaar card number. After inputting both, you get an OTP on your linked mobile number to open the instant bank account. However, the digital savings account is valid only for 12 months. Within a year of account opening, you are supposed to complete biometric authentication for the account after which it will be converted into a regular savings account. Minors are barred from opening a digital savings account. Also your total deposit cannot cross the Rs 2 lakh limit in the year. Basic savings account: The Rs 2 lakh limit isn’t applicable here but your account balance can’t be more than Rs 1 lakh. You also get access to mobile banking and QR card. The excess balance will be transferred to your post office account if the two are linked. Although you can make unlimited deposits, you cannot make more than 4 withdrawals from a basic savings account. There is no requirement of any initial deposit nor do you need to maintain any minimum balance. Regular savings account: Among all the three savings accounts, this one provides the most benefits provided you don’t mind going to a post office or contacting a postman to open the account. Once the account is opened you get a QR card for making payments and withdrawing cash. Even minors above 10 years are eligible to open a regular savings account with just a PAN card, Aadhaar card and biometric verification. You also enjoy the benefit of no cap on withdrawal and deposit provided the maximum balance doesn’t go above the limit of Rs 1 lakh. Money transfer services can save you a lot of money when doing international transfers compared to the ATM or the bank. How do they work and are they worth the effort? Recommended money transfer services: **1st choice** CurrencyFair https://www.currencyfair.com/?channel=RGN3H1 [Referral link. Free transfer + 30€ bonus if you transfer 2000€ or equivalent] Usually the least expensive, but also the smallest list of supported currencies/countries. Use CurrencyFair first if your money comes *from* Europe, UK, Australia or any country where CurrencyFair has a local bank account. List of supported currencies to ‘send in’: https://app.currencyfair.com/support/en/sending-in/16 Check if they have a local account to ‘send in’ your currency: https://www.currencyfair.com/how-it-works/exchange-process-times/ (For example, they do not have local accounts in the US, Canada and New Zealand even if they accept the respective currencies.) **2nd Choice** TransferWise http://bit.ly/creativenomad_TW1 [Referral Link to support this channel. The free transfer promotion has been phased out! Sorry. :( ] Use TransferWise first if your money comes *from* the US, Canada, New Zealand or any supported country with a local account. Also use them to get an extra free transfer after using up your CurrencyFair freebie. List of supported countries here: http://bit.ly/creativenomad_TW2 How to make a transfer step-by-step here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWCFao8kcbI **3rd Choice** XE.com http://www.xe.com/xemoneytransfer/ Use XE.com if you need to transfer from a currency/country that is not supported by CurrencyFair or TransferWise, like sending money *from* Mexico. List of supported currencies here: http://www.xe.com/xemoneytransfer/ca/#currencies **EXTRA INFO** Good post comparing various money transfer services: https://www.currencyfair.com/blog/money-transfer-companies-compared/ Excellent website that compares various services including spread and fees for a given trade: https://moneytis.com/ Tips: ** You need a bank account at both ends of the transaction. The receiving account usually doesn't have to be yours, so you can use a (trusted!) friend's account if your are in a pinch. ** Compare your particular trade between services, pricing varies a lot depending on countries and currencies. ** Money transfer services are usually slow. The delay can be from a few hours to a few business days to more than a week in some cases. Plan ahead. ** Always test a new transfer service with a smaller amount first (a few hundred dollars or equivalent) to make sure everything is working as expected. ** Break down very big transfers into smaller chunks. It minimizes risk if anything goes wrong and it avoids getting flagged by government checks (usually around 10000US$, varies by country). It also evens out variations in the exchange rate if you do multiple transfers over a few weeks instead of all on the same day.

When you want to start investing in Real Estate, a question you'll ask is how much you need for a down payment. There are three types of down payments I talk about, and I run you through a few scenarios so you understand the math. Whether you are a first time home buyer, or if your buying an investment property. It's important to put the right amount down, even if a bank will allow a lesser amount, so that you are protected against the risk of a market collapse. Watch and Enjoy!
